Organization:
The BSA has issued a charter to the Lions Club of Beaumont authorizing them to use the scouting program to further their service to our community.
Our group is organized as a Pack and two Troops.
The Pack is for boys and girls in kindergarten - 5th grade. Scouts are grouped into Dens by their age/grade in school.
Troop 70B is for young men in 6th - 12th grades and Troop 70G is for young women in 6th - 12th grades. Both troops are separated into Patrols generally by age but sometimes also by scouting experience.
Dens meet weekly and all come together at a Pack meeting once a month. At those weekly den meetings scouts will be led through many adventures all toward earning rank, expanding their knowledge base and having fun. Our
Rank Information page has links for each age group that explain what the scouts accomplish in each rank. At the monthly pack meeting scouts are recognized for their achievements and presented with awards, patches, and rank.
Patrols meet weekly to discuss the current agendas of each patrol (may it be merit badges, working on rank, or planning service projects or campouts, etc). The Troop comes together monthly for various reasons such as Patrol Leaders Council, Planning Meetings, and quarterly for Court of Honor. The Court of Honor is when troop-aged scouts are recognized for their achievements and awarded their merit badges and badges of rank.
Cub Scouting (the Pack) is parent-led, meaning that while our purpose is for the scouts we realize that they are children and parents and leaders plan the activities.
Scouts BSA (the Troops) are scout-led, meaning that the scouts decide what they want to work on within the realm of their ranks, merit badge options, leadership opportunities, and other activities. The adult leaders provide guidance to make sure that the scouts stay on track, answer questions, and offer expertise and training in certain skills.
We have a Pack and Troop Committee that meets monthly to discuss all of the upcoming events and works together to plan them and handle the business of running the pack. The Committee is headed by our Committee Chair and includes several registered leaders. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend the meetings and participate in the discussions. The more involved the parent, the more the scout will get out of the program. Our Pack and Troop leadership structure is detailed
here. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities, both large and small, for the parents of our scouts to take on. If you are interested in taking on a position, talk to your Den Leader, Scoutmaster, Committee Chair, a committee member, or email
